Göynük lies just north of Kemer and takes its name from the canyon beside it. The town has two distinct faces: holiday villages with generous grounds and pebble beaches along the shore, and a quiet town centre a few kilometres inland, backed by pine forest. That double character makes Göynük convenient for those who want to spend the day on the beach and eat at local restaurants in the evening.

The area's emblem is Göynük Canyon. In this narrow gorge, where a stream descending from the Taurus mountains has split the rock, the water stays icy even in midsummer; walking the canyon means wading through it in places. The walkable section runs a few kilometres from the entrance, and there are harder inner stretches that require equipment. The canyon entrance is close to the town centre, so guests staying in Göynük usually complete the trip in half a day.

Göynük is reached from the airport via the Antalya ring road and then the coastal highway towards Kemer. Because this road runs along the foot of the mountains it is winding and punctuated by tunnels, with limited lighting at night. With a driver who knows the route the journey is both quicker and less tiring for passengers.
