Kemer is the centre of the coastal strip where the Taurus mountains drop straight into the sea, and that geography sets it apart from Antalya's other resort areas. The beaches are pebble rather than sand, which keeps the water clear, and the pine forest behind cools the air even in the summer heat. Kemer is also a real town — with its bazaar, restaurants and marina it is one of the few resort areas where there is somewhere to go outside the hotel.

The marina is the heart of the town. The promenade around the yacht harbour comes alive in the evening, and boats leave from here on day trips to Phaselis, the Three Islands and the surrounding coves. Kemer's second landmark is Tahtalı Mountain at 2,365 metres; the cable car climbing from sea level carries you to the snow-capped summit in about ten minutes, with the whole Gulf of Antalya laid out below.

The airport journey runs along the Antalya ring road and then the coastal highway. Past the Konyaaltı exit the road follows the foot of the mountains through bends and tunnels, and traffic can build on this stretch in summer. Our drivers do not stick to one fixed route but choose the fastest for the moment. On night arrivals, where lighting is limited in places, knowing the road affects both journey time and comfort.

Hotels in Kemer fall into three groups: small properties within walking distance of the town centre, large holiday villages along the shore, and forest resorts towards Göynük and Çamyuva. Because addresses resemble one another there is a real risk of arriving at the wrong property; our drivers know the local hotel entrances and set you down at reception.
