The seafront promenade is the town's backbone, and the flat rock shelves and natural pools at the water's edge give the shore a character of its own. The Sunday market in Mahmutlar is among the largest in the area. Dim Cave, the Dim River valley and Sapadere Canyon are all a short drive away, while Alanya centre and the castle are about twenty minutes west.

The journey from the airport to Mahmutlar is among the longest transfer routes on the Antalya coast, continuing along the D400 past Alanya centre. Most of the road is comfortable, though some sections after Manavgat get busy in summer. Mahmutlar rises in layers up the hillside, with steep, narrow roads between the seafront complexes and the buildings on the upper streets. Kestel and Alanya centre lie a short distance west.
