Side is one of the few places on the Antalya coast where daily life happens inside an ancient city. The town at the tip of the peninsula was built among two-thousand-year-old columns, agora ruins and city gates; walking the streets, it is ordinary to find a Roman wall beside a shop. The seaward columns of the Temple of Apollo at the peninsula's end are the most photographed spot in the region at sunset.

The ancient theatre is the town's most impressive structure — with seating for more than fifteen thousand it ranks among Anatolia's great theatres and rises right beside the city walls. Long sandy beaches stretching east and west of Side combine a history visit with a beach holiday in one place. The Manavgat Waterfall and boat trips on the Manavgat River are the classic excursions from the area.

Side is reached from the airport along the D400 highway, a largely straight, wide and comfortable road. The demanding part begins on arrival: the centre of the Side peninsula is largely a pedestrian zone and vehicle access is restricted at certain hours. Drivers unaware of this rule leave passengers at the edge of town, making a long walk with luggage unavoidable.

East of Side, Sorgun and Titreyen Göl, and to the west Çenger, hold the large holiday villages; those resorts are entered from the main road and you are dropped directly at reception.
