Datça sits on a long, narrow peninsula where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. Almond and olive trees stretch along its length; the Datça almond is the area's best-known product and the almond blossom in February is reason enough for a visit on its own. The settlement has two centres: modern Datça on the shore and the preserved village of Old Datça with its stone houses and narrow lanes.

At the tip of the peninsula lies the ancient city of Knidos. Founded where the two seas meet, this port city is notable for its theatre and two separate harbours; because the wind changes direction here, ancient ships often had to wait at this point. Datça's coves — Palamutbükü, Ovabükü, Hayıtbükü — line the southern shore of the peninsula and are known for their clear water.

The journey from the airport to Datça is the longest transfer route in the region. The road first crosses the Sakar Pass to reach Marmaris, then enters the peninsula, where a single-lane, winding road with sea on both sides begins. The scenery is striking but the drive is long, and map estimates rarely reflect reality. Our Mercedes fleet makes this distance markedly easier, and we stop for a break if needed.

Accommodation in Datça is split between the centre, Old Datça and the southern coves, with distances of up to twenty kilometres between these three areas. Vehicle access to the stone streets of Old Datça is limited, while the guesthouses in the coves are reached along narrow field tracks.
