Fethiye, built around a sheltered bay, is one of those rare places that is both a working city and a holiday destination. With its marina, fish market and bazaar it functions all year round, and the tourist areas are spread within that fabric. Lycian rock tombs rise on the slopes behind the town — the best known being the Tomb of Amyntas, visible from almost anywhere in the city.

Fethiye Bay is the centre of boat tourism; the Twelve Islands tour is the most popular day trip in the region. West of the bay lie Göcek and its coves, to the south Ölüdeniz and the Butterfly Valley, and to the north the abandoned village of Kayaköy. The fish market in the town centre is an experience of its own: you buy fish from the stalls and have the surrounding restaurants cook it.

The airport journey to Fethiye takes about half an hour on a comfortable route, crossing the Dalaman plain and descending into the city through the Göcek tunnel. The old mountain road before the tunnel is still in use but longer; our drivers choose according to live traffic. With flight tracking the vehicle waits for delayed landings and service continues for night arrivals.

Fethiye spreads over a wide area: the centre, the marina district, Çalış beach and the Karagözler slopes are far apart and their addresses resemble each other.
